Ruby’s One Year Ampuversary

What a year this has been !!  If you remember our story, my daughter was starting an Accelerated Masters Program the week that her beloved Ruby was determined to have Histoplasmosis in her leg  it was AWFUL! and Kacy was a wreck   Mom to the rescue flew out and nursed Ruby thru this awful 2 weeks of her post op and it was truly hell (read prior posts). But what a difference a year makes !  It’s another whirlwind August but Kacy and Ruby have officially put this nightmare 52 weeks behind them in the record books. This August is also a whirlwind as it found Kacy defending her thesis and finishing the last 4 projects/papers for her Masters, interviewing and getting a top job in her field in Denver, packing up her home (while still trying to finish school), finding an apt that would take a dog near a park at a good price, (not easy in Denver AT ALL), then graduating top of her class, moving to Denver, finding a new vet and kennel that would accept a NONvaccinated dog (due to her chemo), vacation to Florida, and starting that new job !!! All in 23 days !! Whew !!  It makes me tired just writing it all !  But we are blessed for all these things and mostly Ruby and Kacys continuing good health and prosperity !

The year was not without its share of shaky moments when we thought twice she had relapsed  thankfully one time was a bad infection and the other was just strained muscles due to her weight (because of the prednisone which Ruby can not seem to wean). Ruby gets pain when Kacy tries to cut back and it also makes her eat too much.  Her muscles are weak and she can’t hike as far as she used to.  But with more time in the current year hopefully Kacy will have time to take her up to Colorado State for their awesome Sports Medicine work with Tripawds.

Ruby is spending her 3rd night in the new apartment and unfortunately seems to have picked up something at the kennel causing bad diarrhea (due to her not having any immunizations) . It’s kind of fitting that Kacys  night of sleep before her first day at her new job be spent at the Pet ER spending another bloody fortune on our million dollar girl !!!

Again, thanks to everyone who helped and encouraged us on this forum  we really could not have done it without all of this communities help  Hopefully one day we can give back in some way !!

Below is Kacys brief reflection post on Ruby’s Ampuversary !!

Maybe we will post again sooner than 1 year !!
